FAQs

Q: What is a hostel, and how is it different from a hotel?

A: A hostel is a type of budget-friendly accommodation that emphasizes community and shared experiences. Our hostel provides a variety of accommodation types (cabins, private rooms & bunks in shared dorm rooms), as well as a spacious & welcoming living room, a full kitchen, and bathrooms throughout the place (6 shared in total!), and even a shared balcony overlooking town (which is just a short path away!).

Q: Where are you located and how do I get there?

A: We’re located in Winthrop, WA, on the Eastern side of the Northern Cascades in the beautiful Methow Valley. From about May through October *barring any wildfire closures*, folks can get here from the West Side via Hwy 20 through North Cascades National Park. The rest of the year, the driving route is East over I90 (or Hwy 2) toward Wenatchee, North on the 97, then Hwy 153 & 20 West to Winthrop.

Q: When and how do I check in/out?

A: We have a “check-in-less” system! Just arrive any time AFTER 4pm and make your way to your cabin, room, or bunk. The main hostel is unlocked and the key to your cabin or private room will be in the door to that cabin or room. Checking in late? No problem, just please be respectful of other guests. Check out is 11am… pull your linens if you’d like and leave the key in the door and we’ll take it from there!

Q: Are linens provided?

A: Yes! Beds are fully made, each with its own down comforter… and towels are provided.

Q: Do you have storage lockers?

A: We do not have storage lockers. If you have personal belongings that you’d like to keep safe, we recommend renting a private room or cabin and locking it inside. There is currently a large cubby for each guest in the shared dorm rooms, but they do not have doors on them currently … Paul promises they will soon!

Q: Do you have ski/bike storage?

A: We do have a small covered area in the front of the hostel where folks can store their bike or skis. We do not provide locks so guests will want to bring their own.

Q: Do you have laundry available to guests?

A: Unfortunately, no. But there is coin-op laundry available just down the street at Pine Near RV park!

Q: What’s your cancellation policy?

A: See our policy here. It varies in the Summer vs Winter.

Q: What should we know about Wildfire Season?

A: Know that wildfires are becoming increasingly common. Some seasons are better/worse than others, but you can pretty much anticipate dealing with some smoke & potential road closures as early as July and potentially into September. Please understand our cancellation policy before booking during this time.

Q: Is it mostly “youths” staying at the hostel? And are they loud?

A: No, our guests are all ages and demographics. In general, most folks are coming out here to recreate. In July and September you’re likely to cross paths with a PCT hiker beginning (or just finishing) their trek. We do get the occasional group that enjoys themselves into the evening, but we don’t generally have issues with folks being disrespectful regarding the quiet hours (930 pm). If you’re looking for total privacy, we recommend renting a cabin.

Q: Do you have high-speed WiFi?

A: We try! For the most part, yes. But the entire town is known to have occasional outages (pretty rare).

Q: Is breakfast provided?

A: Sorry, no… but we do provide free Blue Star coffee! 😊

Q: Do you have on-site parking? How about E-charging?

A: We do have a dedicated parking lot for guests. We do not currently offer E-charging… but we will in the not-too-distant future!

Q: Do you allow pets?

A: We do allow pets in the cabins! And because two of the cabins use the hostel facilities, you may see the occasional furry friend in the main hostel. But pets are not allowed in the private rooms of the hostel (with the exception of service animals in the Abernathy Peak Room).
